FIELDING
THE PHONE CALLS!
(White
House .Gov, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services)
(Huffington
Post, Jen Christensen, Robert Pear, David Espo, Frazer Chronicle)
I’m
retired, so answering my phone really isn’t a pain in the butt to do, in fact I
usually don’t mind, it gives me a chance to see how the other half is living. However lately what I’m getting is
computer generated political advertisement regarding…..yup you got it,
Obamacare. I’ve listened to several, and with the exception of the voice being
different, they all give the same message.
Do
not, I repeat (do not let Obamacare ruin your health care plan,) Obama and his cronies
are out to destroy private insurance companies, and strap additional costs to
small business. I’m not sure that I understand the substance of these messages,
but I do understand one thing, they’ll influence people, and scare some needlessly.
President
Obama has no interest in taking over the insurance industry, trust me on this
one, what is happening is that there is a small percentage, maybe 5% will be
getting the old heave ho, and their insurance coverage will cease, and they’ll
have to purchase a new insurance plan. That’s going to be around 11 million
people, and the policies that they have is just plain lousy, it’s one of the
reasons people with this kind of insurance can actually go bankrupt when the
medical bills start piling up.
Health
insurance that people bought for themselves might have seemed okay, but
there was a good chance that it had big holes in it…..the kind people tend to
only find out about when they incur expensive doctor and hospital bills. And if
you have a pre-existing condition, or you’re getting older (we all do) or you’re
a woman, you have been paying more for that insurance.
THE
OMISSION THAT SIMPLY WASN’T NECESSARY
Whether
you want to call it a lie, or an omission, when President Obama says over and
over that “if you like your insurance plan, you can keep it”, that’s obviously
not true for everybody and the reasons are really simple, what the Affordable
Care Act has done is to get rid of some insurance plans with lesser and weaker
financial protection.
For
some…..they need to be spoon fed, very slowly, this new medical care act. If
you do get one of those nasty insurance letters telling you that your insurance
plan will cease in 30 days, it isn’t new, insurance companies have cancelled
insurance coverage forever, and neither are big rate hikes new, they’ve
happened throughout the history of health insurance.
Health
insurance companies never before needed a reason to discontinue unprofitable
plans, kick people off, change benefits, or raise rates…..these things happened
every year…..like I said, even to people who have really good job-based health
benefits. Individual health insurance market, plans typically are sold with one
year contracts, after the initial year, the companies could do practically
whatever they wanted.
People
who buy their own insurance understand this yearly situation with their health
care coverage, though they had to offer you an alternative, like they do now. A
study has shown that only 17% of those people who buy their own insurance stay
with the same company for more than two years. So there was a constant fluctuation
in many people’s health plans. Obamacare guarantees that if one particular
health plan disappears, there will be others, probably more than were sold in
your local marketplace before.
People
are bright enough to grasp this insurance question, pretty much everybody
understand the need to be medically covered so that no matter what might
happen, they are covered. What the plan does do is to make people responsible,
responsible to stop going to the emergency room like it was their own personal
doctor…..and that is a good thing.
AND
SPEAKING OF
I
ran across a guy who was lamenting about Obamacare, and who did he (the
president) think he was, mandating that American citizens be covered with
health insurance, there goes the land of the free and the home of the brave.
This guy was a bozo, he used the emergency room for everything from a hang-nail
to a tooth ache, and to top it off, he was on Wisconsin’s Badger Care…..a
welfare type plan.
People
in the United States are mandated
everyday to purchase stuff, or to be covered with some sort of liability
insurance. There are parts of the Obama insurance act that I have trouble with,
like pre-existing illnesses or injuries, or birth defects, I can’t figure out
how health insurance companies can be forced into this type of coverage without
the benefit of a higher rate of pay.
Affordable
healthcare for everybody has been a goal of government off and on for decades,
not having a plan is what really, really sets the United States apart from some
other developed countries. England, Canada, and even Cuba have universal health
care, Cuba…..wow, and we don’t.
Obamacare
will not break the bank of the smaller business person; it’ll actually make our
country run at a more efficient rate. I can tell you this from experience, not
having to worry about health care and how it’s going to get paid, it isn’t a
worry that anybody needs during a distressing medical procedure.
Health
Insurance is little more than a tool, not only for the affluent, but those
folks that live from paycheck to paycheck. Neither is less important than the
other, to make our country operate…..we need both, so when Mr. Money Bags
complains about either higher prices or taxes, and Joe Blow uses the emergency
services of a hospital for his annual check-up, remember that both are hurting
the country’s economy.
And
the next time some sort of new change is mandated because of Obamacare, let’s
try it out; see if it works, and if it doesn’t…..well than we alter the plan.
It being the law of the land (Obamacare) there are some people in high places
that figure it’ll work…..why not let’s see for ourselves.
HAVE A NICE DAY!
