DID YOU SEE THAT SLAMAJAMA?

(YAHOO! SPORTS, Frazer Chronicle)

Brandon Knight someday might be a real first rate guard in the National Basketball Association, he’s decent right now, but he’ll get better, of that I have no doubt. Knight is a 6’-3” 190 pound 2nd. year pro who is a starting guard for the Detroit Pistons. In his second season, Knight is averaging a little more than 14 points a game.

Hopefully, for the Pistons, Knight will be part of the face that the Detroit club figures to help them get out of the dull-drums of losing that every professional sports team goes through. Mix in some big guys underneath, a long range bomber or two, and presto, the Pistons will be right back, battling the big boys of the league on a nightly basis.

DeAndre Jordon is a moose of a player, 6’-11” 265 pound behemoth of the N.B.A. I’m sure that Jordon is typical of those very large men that patrol what is called the “paint.” These kinds of players use their bulk, height and athleticism to keep opponents honest. If you drive the lane amongst these giants of the hardwood, your gonna get the occasional spanking.

Last night, Sunday, February 10, the Los Angeles Clippers put a spanking on the entire Piston ball club, 129-97. The highlight of the drubbing, depending on whether you’re a Piston or a Clippers fan was the lob-slam over the outstretched hand of Knight by Jordon.

DeAndre really put a hurt on Knight who was completely defenseless and overmatched by Jordon and his monster slam. But for whatever reason the play went viral on the internet, and some have taken what happened to Brandon Knight as an embarrassment to the Pistons guard.

Jordon is a center with the body length and weight depicting his position while Knight carries his 6’-3” 190 pound stature of a prototypical N.B.A. backcourt player. Knight actually was attempting to do his job, nothing more, nothing less.

For a guy who, in his prime, was only able to barely touch the bottom of the twine of the netting of a basket, I am continually in awe of guys who can flush a basketball. During my time in and around sports, I have usually been out-talled by almost everybody. I just could never jump, probably because of my height, 5’-9” and my weight, around 190 during my playing days.

But it kind of seems cruel to me for the play to be made so much of, after all it was just a dunk of a basketball by a guy 6’-11” and 265 pounds over a guy 6’-3” and 190 pounds. Could the outcome have been any less?

If it would have been me guarding Jordan, I would have stayed flat footed and taken a bite out of…..well, use your imagination, what part of Jordon’s anatomy would have been about eye high…..bet he’d have never done that slam again!

Basketball patrons spend good hard earned cash to see acrobatic plays, and as long as nobody gets hurt…..or bitten, it’s almost good clean fun, at least for the fans. I see absolutely nothing wrong with Jordon slam-a-whamming Knight. Maybe next time the two teams meet, Knight will prove his dexterity superiority and dribble circles around Jordon, however till then, DeAndre Jordon has earned the right to be called a better of Knight as far as dunking is concerned.

HAVE A NICE DAY!
