UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE, WHY THEY SHOULD NEVER BE ON THE FRONT PAGE!

(Stamps.com, Demand Media)

(Green Bay Press Gazette, Frazer Chronicle)

What with all the hassle and dilemma that, on an average day seems to surround the former Pony Express, you’d think that there would be an earnest effort to never ever be involved with a news item that would be plastered across the Green Bay Press-Gazette, no matter how ludicrous, or outlandish the debate might be.

The Return to Sender? Polygamist’s mailing a dilemma for counties would be something that the USPS would simply ignore. There can be no winners involved with this story, and for good reasons, because at the core issue is the United States Postal Service refusing to deliver a piece of  mail that follows exactly the criteria that has been established.

The rules, regulations and the laws that have been instituted through the U.S. legislation spells out in rather simple and mundane information regarding what you can mail….and what you can’t:

You can’t mail, items deemed illegal under the laws of the United States, can’t mail internationally any destination or waypoint nation. Handguns or firearms that can be concealed, whether assembled or disassembled, ammunitions except inert bullets with no cartridge or powder are allowed.

Alcoholic beverages of any sort with an alcohol content 0.5%by weight or greater, the only exception are cold remedies containing alcohol, mouthwash…..and…..cooking Sherry, which is not considered to be intended as a beverage.

No tobacco products of any kind with the exception of highly limited amounts mailed from adult to adult, gasoline, explosives, fireworks, Hydrogen Peroxide, Tear Gas, liquid-cell batteries, any item containing mercury, including thermometers.

Legal narcotics and other controlled substances, most live mammals and birds, (a few exceptions apply for live poultry), and mail packaging that clearly advertises the contents as any of the above, even if the package does not contain the items in question.

There are materials restrictions; size restrictions, as well as weight, shape restrictions, stamp use and return address restrictions. With little exception the USPS has attempted to cover every conservable question and situation that might pop-up!

SHORT SUPPLY OF COMMON SENSE

One thing that the postal service did not take into account when they were attempting to cover all their bases was an almost total lack of common sense by the customers of the governmental service. Common sense seems to be in short supply when it comes to people accepting packages or common letter communication.

Mailings from religious sects seems to be creating a dilemma for some Wisconsin counties, communications promoting the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints seems to have touched off a debate about whether the government should be helping the Latter Day Saints and other religious groups to spread the word.

Seems as if the local governmental problem of paying POSTAGE-DUE charges has risen to between five to as much as eight thousand dollars a year. Another issue, which really isn’t an issue at all, is improper opening of mail addressed city or county officials, this offense is illegal, it’d be like me walking up to my neighbors mail box, grabbing a few letters and opening them. YOU CAN’T DO THAT, unless you are authorized to do so…..and in writing.

The only dilemma, in my opinion is the city, or Brown County paying for postage-due…..simply give the piece back to the post-man, and then the material, (whatever it is) would simply be returned to the sender, just like I do at least twice a year.

This whole issue is nothing more than a tempest in a teapot, neither the city of Green Bay, nor the county of Brown needs to alter, or review their mail-handling procedures. Mail is simply delivered to the office that the parcel is addressed to, and that department follows a pre-dispose proto-call in exactly who opens the mail…..what a joke…..talk about no COMMON SENSE!

A DEEPER ISSUE HERE

The dilemma I see isn’t a question of paying past-due postage, or who opens whose mail, the real dilemma is one of religion. Some in county government wonder why the mail room as well as the USPS should be helping to spread a religious message.

It might sound a bit colonial…..like 1776 colonial, you know…..freedom of speech and religion, some of the things that our four-fathers fought for during the American Revolutionary war. America came to the new world, and through tireless effort, hacked out a new land where they could live, love, work, raise a family, and be allowed to say whatever, whenever, and to worship whomever and whatever they desired.

I do not agree with the fringe religious groups, or these subversive organizations that seek to displace the current power structure in the United States. I personally think that they are wasting effort, their time, and money for a cause that…..either when they grow up,  get tired of chasing their own tails, or realize that who they are following is a crackpot, will move on with whatever is left of their lives.

Warren Jeffs, the polygamist with the 14 year old wife, and the guy who routinely arranged soiree’s with girls little more than starting puberty with old guys, some so long in the tooth that they had forgotten what to do with their wee little Willie.

Warren Jeffs is, well…..you might as well say it, is a sickening imposter of a human being, and completely out of touch of main-street America. He’s where he should be, probably in isolation so the wee Willies of the prison population can’t get at him. And even though he still has followers, who do his bidding, and preach his word…..according to Warren Jeffs, these people are woefully weak minded, and if they weren’t following Jeffs, they would be picking some other weirdo.

Let’s not allow hatred of any kind to cloud our vision of what is right, what is wrong, and why our ancestors crossed the Atlantic more than 200 years ago to seek a new, and better land…..we owe that to them.

HAVE A NICE DAY!
